How to properly store your wool rugs

Proper storage of your natural wool rugs will prevent damage and extend the rug’s life.
Never fold wool rugs. Instead, roll them, especially if storing them for an extended period of time, and secure them with natural twine. Folding the rugs can create permanent creases and damage the structure of the rug fibers, leading to potential fraying of the weave or cracks in the backing material of the rug.
Wool rugs should always be stored in a pest-free, temperature and humidity-controlled environment. Units in a storage facility that is not temperature-controlled and attics that experience excessive heat build-up in warmer weather are not a good place for wool rug storage.
When storing wool rugs for more than two or three weeks, do not wrap them in plastic. Longer periods of storage in plastic, especially in warm or hot environments, can lead to moisture build-up inside the plastic, resulting in mildew. Instead, wrapping your wool rug in clean bedsheets that are breathable is preferred. You may also place your rolled rug in paper or a cardboard tube for storage. This will prevent damage to your wool rug.
